The 9th Sellers Choice Awards have been announced and Expandly’s multichannel sales channel(s) have all come out on top.
10,000 sellers participated in this year’s awards, which ranked online marketplaces, according to four key criteria:
2. Customer service
4. Ease of use
The awards also took into account how likely sellers were to recommend the marketplace and additional comments made about what it’s really like selling on them – dishing the dirt.
2018 Marketplace Winners
Let’s get straight to the results:
In third place
Etsy took bronze, with sellers commenting on its ease of use and its profitability for sellers. Sellers particularly liked Etsy’s innovative approach to introducing new features – including the ‘guest checkout’ which was added last year – but were sometimes bothered by the amount of new-feature testing that took place.
Runner-up this year was eBay. They were commended for their profitability (gaining top spot) and jumped a whole place up from last year’s awards. Sellers loved how much easier the online marketplace had become to use but weren’t so happy with policies that overly favoured buyers.
And in first place
eCommerce giant Amazon took the top spot, with consistently high (although no top) scores in all four areas – maintaining its position from 2017. Sellers praised its traffic and sales but felt a very tight squeeze on margins.
It wasn’t all roses, with Sellers Choice highlighting certain themes of dissatisfaction amongst sellers, including:
– Search result exposure
– Competiton with high-volume sellers
– Paid-for exposure/advertising
– Increased pressures to lower prices
