Fulfilment by Amazon: What Is It And Why Do I Need It?

Share

Fulfilment by Amazon (or FBA to the cool kids) is an Amazon service where Amazon store, pick, pack and deliver your products directly to your buyers.

Fill Me In

Launched in 2007, it is marketed as a way for small businesses and entrepreneurs to expand across Europe and generate more sales.

Why might I want to do that?

There are a number of benefits to FBA, including:

1. Prime badge of honour (meaning that those filtering on Prime shipping will still see your products)

2. Increased chances of winning the Amazon Buy Box

3. Amazon customer service

4. You can sell more

5. You can concentrate on selling – letting Amazon do the hard-labour

6. More warehouse space

Sounds Costly

As you would expect, there is a fee involved but luckily there are only two:

Fulfilment fee – A flat, per unit fee

+

Storage fee – A per cubic foot, per month fee

Is it worth it?

Whether or not FBA will work for you is the million dollar question. It largely depends on what you sell, how much you sell and how quickly you sell it – drilling down into the detail of your inventory and invoices is key to this decision.

E-commerce software such as Expandly offers you this insight by providing you with detailed reports that can drill down into your sales and filter by online marketplace: Meaning that you get all the benefits of multichannel selling, without any of the reporting headaches.
