You’re multichannel selling and you’re using Expandly: you’re smart. And being smart, you’ll want to avoid some common mistakes that Expandly users make when first starting out. Luckily, we’re here to help you avoid them. So, let’s get straight to it:

1. Choosing Incorrect Listing Import Dates

When importing listings, especially for the first time, it’s important to put the date you first started listing, to the current date. This will ensure that all of your listings are imported. Some users set the import date as the date they signed up to Expandly, which makes us feel super special but won’t actually be much help to you.

2. Remembering Variations and Brands After Starting the Listing Process

Steady, Eddie; Variations and brands need to be added before you attempt to list products. Failure to do so will result in an error message and mean that you just have to go back and add them anyway, which is wasting all the time you should be saving!

3. Forgoing Creating Listing Templates

Some of us read the instruction manual from front to back, twice, and some of us wonder if the leftover handful of screws were a nice touch or of significant structural importance. We know you want to get on, in and straight listing on Amazon, eBay and Etsy but it is important that you create listing templates firstThe template tells the channel which category to list into, the shipping details and other important stuff. This also helps save you time in the future by allowing you to use one template for products.

4. Skipping the mapping Order Status Prompt

We all love a snooze button but failure to map your order statuses will only lead to one thing: failure. Mapping order statuses lets us know what to put on your sales order page, depending on where you or your customer is in the buying process. Different sales channel(s) have different statuses so map them at the beginning so we can get it right from the beginning.

5. Creating a Mountain out of adding sales channel(s) using FTP details

Some sales channel(s) (hello Woo Commerce and Opencart) require us to install a bridge file to your store, via your server. We’re techie, we know how to handle this shenanigan, but it does require you to either: automatically add the file via the platform; or, manually download the file and upload it using a FTP client. It’s super simple and this guide explains it all but some customers get unnecessarily freaked out (c’est chic).

There you have it; common mistakes that are oh so easy to avoid. Happy selling!
